| Organizing Regent Dora Myers Hanna, met with the ladies to form a new chapter. On October 6, 1917, the chapter officially became Major Hugh Moss Chapter, NSDAR, in honor of the regent’s American Revolutionary War ancestor, Hugh Moss. |

Hugh Moss was first commissioned Captain of the Goochland County Militia of Virginia in 1760 and commissioned Major in 1770. He served at Valley Forge and the Battles of Germantown and Brandywine. He died in 1780 of exposure and wounds received at the Battle of Brandywine. |
